Typical Applications - Entry Level CCTV

Chubb designs, installs and services CCTV systems specifically for use in stand-alone sites such as retail outlets, and restaurants.

Chubb offers a range of CCTV cameras, from discreet internal mini-domes, to highly visible external pan-tilt-zoom cameras.

An entry level CCTV solution would be specified for a stand-alone site with limited coverage of internal and external areas where cameras would be an effective crime deterrent. Such a solution could apply to a restaurant or a small independent retailer.

What products would be used?

A typical basic stand-alone CCTV system could consist of a 4 channel digital video recorder (DVR), a combination of 2 fixed internal colour cameras and 2 fixed external monochrome cameras, a display monitor (CRT or LCD) with split-screen facility, and possibly a switcher or multiplexer to record multiple camera images simultaneously. All components would be hardwired together.

How much coverage would this provide?

An entry level CCTV system would be capable of covering 2 separate internal areas in colour, such as a shop counter or a storage area, and 2 separate external areas, such as front and rear access points. These images would be relayed to a spot monitor, particularly in retail outlets, and to a main control terminal where there the digital video recorder would be stored securely. This solution would be suitable for stand-alone sites.

What technologies would it incorporate?

All Chubb CCTV systems utilise digital technology in digital video recorders (DVR) for capturing and recording images. This has now replaced old-fashioned analogue (VCR) recording systems, and provides superior quality images that do not degrade and can be quickly and easily retreived. Plug and play cameras are available in a range of styles from discreet mini-domes, to highly visible external cameras. With an integral hard drive, the digital video recorder (DVR) automatically overwrites recordings after they cease to be required, in accordance with the Data Protection Act. Recordings can be copied onto CDs using an integral CD writer for releasing as evidence to the Police, or if someone makes a subject access request, in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

What happens if my requirements change in the future?

An entry level CCTV system is limited by the number of channels (or cameras) available on the digital video recorder (DVR), and by the size of the integral hard drive for recording video images. Most digital video recorders (DVR) are easy to replace if additional cameras or greater video storage is required. An entry level CCTV system would be based on the use of fixed cameras that do not feature pan-tilt-zoom capability, although pan-tilt-zoom cameras are also available but should be controlled by a trained operator. To comply with the Data Protection Act, a system must have a defined purpose and the coverage of the cameras should be restricted to suit this purpose.
