Digital Video Surveillance (CCTV) Systems

Typical Applications - Top Level CCTV

Chubb works closely with customers who have complex requirements to develop unique CCTV solutions, incorporating EPOS, ANPR or remote video monitoring capabilities.

Chubb's remote video monitoring and response centre (RVRC) is approved to BS8418, to ensure customers receive a Police response if required.

A top level CCTV solution would be specified for large complex stand-alone sites and multiple sites linked together by a communications network. This would provide extensive coverage of internal and external areas to monitor events 24/7, particularly relevant where there is a significant risk of crime. Such a solution could apply to a bank, a museum or a university campus.

What products would be used?

A typical top level CCTV system could consist of one or more 16 channel digital video recorders (DVR), a combination of fixed and moveable internal and external cameras, some of which could be covert. It would also include a series of rack mounted display monitors, multiplexers and PC based telemetry controls for controlling any moveable camera from practically any location. Components could be hardwired (unscreened twisted pair (UTP) cabling) or wireless, to adapt to challengin environments, such as hospitals or cathedrals. Such a system could be integrated with intruder protection and access control if required, to create an integrated security management (ISM) solution.

How much coverage would this provide?

A top level CCTV system would be capable of covering all required internal and external areas, with each digital video recorder capable of accommodating around 16 cameras. Coverage would be increased with the aid of moveable cameras that can pan, tilt and zoom to focus in on a particular area. Video signals would be relayed to a control room for monitoring by on-site operatives, or monitored remotely by a remote video response centre (RVRC). With complete control through a PC, intuitive software, and remote client access, it becomes easy to observe any area covered by cameras on any linked site, at any time, wherever you are at the time. This solution would be suitable for managing large complex sites, or many sites networked together.

What technologies would it incorporate?

All Chubb CCTV systems utilise digital technology, with a range of digital video recorders (DVR) that capture and record images. This provides quality images that do not degrade and can be quickly and easily retreived. Specialist cameras can be incorporated, such as bullet cameras, for covert applications, and day/night cameras that adapt to changing light levelsfor 24/7 surveillance. With a large integral hard drive, the digital video recorder (DVR) automatically overwrites recordings after they cease to be required, in accordance with the Data Protection Act. Recordings can be copied onto a CD using an intergal CD writer for releasing as evidence to the Police, or if someone makes a subject access request.

What happens if my requirements change in the future?

A top level CCTV system is designed to be modular and scalable, and allows you to integrate other security technologies, such as access control, with little disruption. Efficient recording, when movement is detected, when items are scanned at a till (EPOS), or when a number plate is recognised (ANPR) ensures that recorded footage is useful and eases the transmission of data through a communications network. In addition, with the use of remote video monitoring and response (RVR), the effectiveness of CCTV is dramatically enhanced and proactive action can be taken 24/7. Remote operators are standing by when alerted by movement detectors or an alarm on site to ward off intruders or to verify the identity of an individual before granting access to a high security site. The possibilities are endless.
