A Basic Guide to Fire Safety for Scouts Premises

Chubb Fire has produced a Basic Guide to Fire Safety for Scout Premises, helping you understand all fire safety issues as you prepare your fire risk assessment

As well as providing the materials Scouts need to complete the badge, Chubb Fire is now offering a simple guide to keeping Scouts premises safe from fire.

Under UK Fire Safety Legislation, premises have to have a documented fire risk assessment that looks at reducing and removing the risk of fire.  In Scout owned sites, the Scout Leader is deemed the responsible person and should be the one to organise this risk assessment.   If your meetings take place in other premises, such as Church Halls, then you should have been asked to contribute towards the site’s fire risk assessment.

As experts in the field of fire safety, Chubb Fire has produced a “Basic Guide to Fire Safety for Scouts Premises”.  Information in this guide can help Scout Leaders prepare a Fire Risk Assessment.  This guide gives advice on:

  • Means of Escape
  • Fire Warning
  • Emergency Lighting
  • Signage
  • Portable Fire Fighting Equipment
  • Training
  • Fire Plan
  • Record Keeping
  • Disabled Persons
  • Risk Areas

The Guide can be downloaded in PDF format here:  A Basic Guide to Fire Safety for Scout Premises (1.4Mb)

The Guide finishes with a simple checklist to help you identify all fire hazards and identify what steps you have in place to prevent a fire from starting in the first place.  The checklist comes with space to note any corrective action needed.
