Winner Liam Roddis with Uk Group Shared Services HR Director, Sue White

Liam Roddis, 21, joined Chubb’s apprentice scheme from school, having always been interested in electronics. Under the scheme he has received full training for a career in security, and is now an integral part of the Chubb team in Sheffield.

His drive, determination, work ethic and maturity are all characteristics which put him ahead of his peers, as David Millett, Training Manager for Chubb Security explains: “Liam demonstrates huge amounts of initiative, offers excellent customer service and understands the requirements of his role at Chubb, working to meet them as best he can. He will make a very capable and competent engineer when he completes his qualification later this year.”

The BSIA awards recognise excellence, quality of service and professionalism among apprentice installers within the security industry. They are open to those involved in alarm, access control or CCTV installation for security companies with certification from a UKAS accredited certification body. The programme is designed for third-year and outstanding second-year apprentices, and candidates can also be nominated by the college where they are studying.

Commenting on the award winners, John Bates, BSIA Chief Executive said: “Each year our winning apprentices demonstrate the commitment they are already making towards a successful career within the security industry. The BSIA is proud to acknowledge the contribution these apprentices make so early on in their careers to continue the high standards of the industry. Liam should be justifiably proud of his achievements.”

Liam was presented with his award by Admiral the Lord West of Spithead, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State responsible for security at the Home Office, at the Association’s annual luncheon on 15th July at the London Hilton, Park Lane.
