Police Response and URN Management

Police services in the UK will only offer a response to confirmed alarm signals from a monitored alarm system which has been granted a Police URN (Unique Reference Number), the aim being to provide an effective response to genuine intruder and panic attack alarms.

As a certified installer of intruder and panic attack alarm systems and CCTV systems in accordance with the ACPO and ACPOS (Scotland) unified policy, Chubb obtain Police URN’s for the systems installed on behalf of its customers.  The unified Policy is supported by insurers.

All new applications will only qualify for a URN and Police response if the security system is installed to the current required standard (PD6662 /BS EN50131).

CCTV Systems

To enable remote detector activated CCTV systems to gain a URN for police response, systems are to be installed in compliance with BS8418, BS EN50132 and the ACPO Policy on Police Response.

Termination of URN

Following withdrawal of Police response, should the level of false calls delay response being reinstated for more than 6 months, the URN will be deleted and the occupier advised in writing. A new application will then be required.
