Preventing False Alarm Activations

Through continuous product testing and development, Chubb are commited to minimising false alarm activations, helping to ensure that Police resources are utilised most effectively. Below is a list of 15 practical steps that customers can follow to help minimise false alarms and maintain a Police response.

preventing false alarms

  • Ensure people using your alarm system have been correctly trained and instructed
  • Try to minimise the number of people who operate the system
  • Before leaving the premises and setting the alarm check that all doors and windows are physically secured
  • Ensure detection devices are not obstructed
  • If movement detectors are installed do not introduce new sources of heat, movement or sound in the area they protect, such as pets
  • Rehearse the specified entry/exit route and procedure and ensure that it is always followed when setting and unsetting the alarm
  • Do not enter protected areas when the system has been set
  • Do not reset the alarm system after a false alarm until the fault has been identified and documented
  • If you are uncertain about re-setting a monitored alarm system following a false alarm, contact Chubb immediately to help you reset it
  • Ensure you have all keys, key fobs and alarm system code numbers available when entering or leaving the premises
  • Make sure that regular maintenance inspections are carried out to keep the system in good working order
  • Check that all engineer visits and incidents are recorded in a user handbook and that this is stored in a secure place
  • Remember that repeated false alarms can result in the withdrawal of Police response
  • Inform us of any alterations to your premises which may affect your alarm system, such as new storage racking or windows being installed
  • Inform us immediately of any damage, accidental or otherwise, to the alarm system, its detectors or wiring
